When a death occurs, a phone call is made to the parish priest at (608) 868-3338. He will ask for general information to include:
A meeting will be scheduled with the family to gather information regarding the life, work, hobbies, church involvement or any other information about the de-ceased that will be helpful in preparing the service. At that time, scripture readings and music selections may be made.
Music: Four songs will be chosen for the funeral Mass, which the family will select. Suggested songs for the funeral Mass can be found here. The priest and musician will be available to help with these selections if needed. The Church can provide a pianist and/or soloist if the family so desires. Any song that you may wish to use that is not included in this section will need to be approved by the parish priest. The family will then need to provide printed music for the pianist and soloist. Recorded music may only be played before Mass begins and should be appropriate for use in Church.
Scripture Readings: Three readings will be used during the funeral Mass — a first reading, a second reading and a Gospel. The priest will read the Gospel, but a family member may read the first and second readings. The Church can provide a reader if needed. Readings and Gospel Selections can be found here. Other readings from Scripture not listed in this section may also be used with permission from the priest.
